A Festive Tip

Post by laurie53 »

My usual seasonal tip at this time of year, apologies to all those who know it already.

If buying sprouts "on the stalk" cut the end of the stalk and stand them in a jug of water, preferably rainwater, at the back door.

That way you'll be able to pick frost touched sprouts while still dressed in your peignoir and satin slippers.

They will keep for weeks this way, particularly if you trim the stalk regularly as you remove the lower sprouts.

Sprouts are my favourite vegetable, and I always have them as a side dish when available!

Good idea Laurie, maybe this should have been put
into the "Haandy Tips" area.

The sprouts that we get here look sad and dry, the
outer leaves are not crisp as they should be, probably
harvested weeks before they reach the shelves.

Mike.

Moved to here from Snug.

Used to be sprout country round here, particularly just North of us in South Beds. Not so many fields of them now though and probably will be fewer after Brexit.
