Laptop Utilities

Post by purwell »

A couple of useful utilities that I have found recently.

The first one disables the Touchpad on a Laptop when you are typing.

The second one displays an on-screen indication that Caps Lock or Num Lock is on.

I found the first one more use to me.

I was forever hitting the touchpad accidentally with my thumb while typing and losing my work.

Some laptops let you turn the touchpad off but mine didn't.

I have my very first laptop and not terribly in love with it yet.

I've just sent for a book 'Laptops for Seniors step by step'. I have a lot to learn.

Are you using the touchpad or a mouse?

Personally I find the mouse a lot easier to use.

I prefer a mouse too.

For some strange reason the touchpad is slightly left of centre, which makes me have to cross my right hand across my body in a most unnatural and uncomfortable position.

I had another go at it this afternoon, as I will never learn if I don't try.

Stick with it and eventually the penny will drop.
Don't forget to ask for help if you need it.

If it has a USB port you could plug in a separate USB mouse.

I have, thanks. Awkward though, sitting with it on my lap, buzzing a mouse around on a mat next to me.

I'll either grow to love it, or put it out for the dustmen! (Not seriously!)

Have you got a wireless mouse?

No, I haven't, but they're not very expensive are they?

So far this laptop has cost me for itself and a book, and now a wireless mouse!!! What next?!

And really, I only got it because my old desktop is running Vista and only has 74Gbs in total! On its last legs.

I really need to start using it. :err:

I’ve just had a look on Amazon. Prices vary quite a lot but personally I would not spend more than £10 on one. Have a look on EBay you would probably get one less than that.

Make use of the "right click" to find all sorts of useful menus.
