Poor Little Tree

Post by aardvaark »

My dear little Goat Willow tree that planted itself over twenty years ago has died. Last year it was attacked by a fungus which took it over, climbing up all its limbs and murdered it. I had loved it, with its grey 'pussies' and its light airy branches swaying in the breeze, playing host to little birds and all sorts of creepy-crawlies. Now it's just sad and brittle and still.

I was thinking of perhaps growing some pretty flowering climber up it, just to bring some life back to it. Nothing too heavy, something easy and perennial too.

Any ideas?

No suggestions? Never mind, I've bought a white Solanum, and a Clematis 'Winter Beauty', from Morrisons supermarket, £1.75 each, and will think it over. The Clematis is in front at the moment.

I didn't make a suggestion because flowers/plants are very much up to personal choice really.
You can't so anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width & depth.

My dream is of a country cottage with wisteria growing over the door, and a magnolia tree in the garden!! Wouldn't be everyone's idea of heaven though!

I'd love that too! And a handsome gardener like Dirk Bogarde.

Aardi your little garden is what mine thinks it is but isn't. :( Looks great. I will try harder. And IMO there is no such thing as a dead tree. They are just waiting for their next incarnation..NO I'm not a Buddhist..just an old hippie. :)
